Each one of our team members play an important role in keeping the agency a well-oiled machine. In our ‘meet the team’ series, we share insights into the lives of the talented individuals that make up our Yoghurt Digital family.
1. What do you do at Yoghurt Digital?
I’m a Biddable Coordinator, which means I’m responsible for looking after our clients’ paid search needs.
2. If you weren’t doing that, what would you be doing?
Setting up my own basketball coaching camp with a focus on strength, flexibility, and nutrition. I feel like too many coaches and kids aren’t incorporating these aspects into their training, which is why there is a pandemic of young injured athletes.
3. What does a typical day look like for you?
It’s almost exactly like the song ‘’TiK ToK’’ by Kesha (see below), only with slightly more household chores and significantly more searching for approval from my direct report Becky.
4. What is your favourite thing about working at Yoghurt Digital?
I enjoy that everyone shares a passion for learning and upskilling themselves. There’s really an atmosphere of sharing knowledge with each other, which is perfect for me, being at the beginning of my career.
5. What are the values that drive you in work and life?
These aren’t really ‘’values’’, but focusing on activities in work and life that push me outside my comfort zone or that I genuinely enjoy.
6. What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I love everything basketball-related. I’ve followed the NBA for most of the last 10 years, spent a lot of time playing in high school and university, and coached almost every age level before I started at Yoghurt. It’s still a big passion of mine, and on the rare occasions that I’m not injured, I play in a men’s competition.
I’m also hugely into endurance sports, and have been doing long distance swimming and running since I was very young. I’m currently training for the Blackmores Marathon in September and, hopefully, an Iron Man event not too far in the future (if my body doesn’t fall apart before then).
And, of course, like any 22 year old I’m not opposed to the occasional Denzel Frothington. A couple of nights a week I like to catch up with my friends and sink a couple of Reece Witherschoons – there’s no greater feeling than enjoying a Philip Seymour Frothman at the end of the week with some close friends. Okay, I’ll stop now…
7. What are your top 3 favourite books?
My number one favourite book of all time is Utopia for Realists by Rutger Bregman. I’ve probably read it 3 or 4 times now and it has completely changed the way I view poverty, welfare, and work. The main argument is for a universal basic income, and it provides a strong and compelling case that can appeal to all sides of the political spectrum.
My second favourite book is Wild by Cheryl Strayed. It’s a true story about the author, who walked the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) from the border of Mexico and through California, Oregon, and Washington, all the way up to the Canadian border. It inspired me so much that I’ve been slowly saving up to do this same journey for the last 2 years.
Finally, I love To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. You’ve probably already read this by now, and if you haven’t – you should. It’s a classic.
8. What’s the best advice you have ever received?
Probably: “You don’t have control over the majority of what goes on, but you can control how you react to it.”
9. What’s your favourite bar in Sydney?
Papa Gedes, a super intimate absinthe bar that’s tucked away down an alley near Town Hall. It’s a great place to start your night if you’re with a small crew.
10. You’re on a deserted island and can only listen to one album for the rest of your days. Which one would you pick?
If I could only listen to one album for the rest of my life, it would (without irony) be the Shrek 2 soundtrack. I watched the movie again the other day and forgot how much of a bop the soundtrack is!
11. If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
It would be to actually remember people’s names. It’s gotten to the point where I don’t even know the names of half the people who work at Yoghurt and it’s too late to ask now. When someone says, ‘’Hey, Matt!” I just hit them with the finger guns and that usually does the trick.
12. When was the last time you laughed so hard you cried?
About two weeks ago, I listened to my friend (who was dressed as a carrot) perform an emotional rendition of “Someone You Loved” by Lewis Capaldi at a karaoke bar. Enough said.
